Charity Dental
Our Charity Dental programme helps Nelson/Tasman locals facing hardship access essential dental care. With the support of local dentists, we offer funded dental assessments and, where approved, follow up treatment. In some cases, minor treatment can be completed at the first visit.
Launched in October 2025, charity dental grants support people who would like to be considered for an initial assessment of their dental needs and follow up treatment pending approval.
Please note that we also support applications for dental work through our monthly hardship grants where we consider applications for support towards dental costs - this is for people who have already been to a dentist for an assessment and are clear of their needs.
Application process
Charity Dental applications received through the month are reviewed by the trustees at their monthly Applications Committee meetings and applicants are advised of the outcome after this meeting. The deadline for charity dental applications is the end of each month.
How it works
Applications close at the end of each month and are reviewed on the second Friday of the following month.
If approved, the person will be referred to a participating dentist for an assessment and possibly immediate treatment, or a treatment plan for further funding consideration by Fifeshire Foundation (where more than minor treatment is required).
Who can apply
Individuals requiring a dental assessment and possible treatment, who have not yet seen a dentist.
Referrals can be made by a social worker, school, or organisation.
Individuals may apply for themselves if they hold a Community Services Card.
If someone already has a dental quote or treatment plan, they should apply for a grant through our regular monthly hardship grants.

APPLICATION PROCESS
Each application is looked at on a case-by-case basis. Once your application has been reviewed, we will contact you to advise of the outcome. If your application is approved, we will forward your details to one of our partner dentists for an appointment.
